Summer at Home… Part 1
What is Montessori exactly? And how would I bring it home?
Well, its based on the ideas and teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori who developed the approach over 100 years ago! Most people associate the term “Montessori” as being a preschool curriculum or an education approach to use with young children. And while that can be true - it’s so much more!
Montessori principles can be extended into many different areas of everyday living in school, home or in the community. It creates a way of living that supports people of all ages working together in a peaceful, mutually supportive environment.
So how do you do this in the summer when your away from school and away from routine?
Start with these simple steps:
Create a daily structure (schedule, routine or rhythm).
Challenge yourself daily to see the world through the eyes of your child.
Respect the thoughts and feelings of those around you - your partner, your family and your children (no matter their age)
Create intentional space to support independence and order
View behavior as communication
Be present for others
